Astoria Industries was started in Astoria, Illinois in the early 60's. Astoria was the first company to manufacture service truck bodies and truck caps made out of fiberglass. Many of these bodies are still serving their customers today. In 1995, Robert Wolf purchased Astoria and Glasstite service bodies from Raven Industries and moved them to Chariton, Iowa from Jackson, Minnesota. Mr. Wolf was President – CEO of Northwest Bodies Inc. (NBI) for 10 ten years prior to acquiring Astoria Industries. Astoria builds products for the telecommunications industry, power and gas industry, oil patch, commercial fleets, and government to name a few. Our customers are located worldwide. Astoria also builds prototypes and equipment for the aeronautical industry. Astoria meets very stringent requirements, set forth by the FAA. Astoria transfers many of the space age materials, processes, and exacting quality control requirements needed in the aeronautical industry to its truck equipment products. Why Astoria
1. Fiberglass is lighter than steel
Astoria fiberglass utility truck bodies are stronger than steel and offer considerable weight savings, in some instances exceeding 30%. Astoria weighs each body after it is manufactured and before delivery.2. Strongest body on the market
Materials and construction used in Astoria bodies makes them the most durable body in the field. Materials and construction are tested both in house and by independent testing facilities.3. Tigerglass™ Fiberglass Panel Core
Astoria's Tigerglass™ fiberglass core material (patent pending), replaces wood and foam core materials. These core panels have exceeded all mechanical properties by a minimum of 30%. Astoria's Tigerglass™ fiberglass panels contain 50% by weight of reclaimed in-plant fiberglass; they're light, strong, and eliminate the need to land fill old damaged bodies and scrap materials.4. Totally engineered body
Astoria bodies are designed to handle heavy loads in off-road conditions. Results from years of testing and field data are incorporated into making Astoria bodies not only durable but also one of the most functional, trouble free bodies you can own. Astoria uses the latest version of Computer Aided Design software for solid modeling and ease of integration with our customer's design programs.5. Gel coat exterior
Astoria's gel coated exterior surfaces are easy to clean, resistant to chipping and can be color matched to all your truck colors. The 18mil thick coating allows for easy repairs and buffing. Whether you have one truck or a fleet, they will look good for a lifetime with Astoria's gel coat finish.6. Weather-tight compartments
Astoria's automotive double bulb door gasket provides a weather-tight sealing surface for all our doors, keeping your equipment dry. Door hinges are constructed of heavy-duty stainless steel, as are our specially designed multi-sealed, free-wheeling, paddle handles. Astoria double panel doors retain their shape, giving superior strength and rigidity for long lasting compartment sealing.7. Design flexibility
